ValetMom says that the Firefox adblockers would stop the floater ads. However, both my home and office computers are running Firefox 2.0.12 and the floats get through all the time. And I have stopped going to sites because of them.
I'd rather pay a membership fee to use the site than be subjected to floats.

Internet site purity is a virtue. Take away power from "The Man" don't cave to ads. "We just want to be free to ride our machines without interference from The Man"

This would hinder my participation, which is currently daily. I sometimes (typically) access from work, sometimes from home. At work POP UP and Additional advertising MAY GET THE SITE PUT ON A "NOT AVAILABLE LIST" (banned list) which would severely hinder my prompt Price Reporting and other participation. I voted against this. The active-x above and side adds could even be a problem.
I hope you don't ruin what we have, letting our great success so far, spell our doom in the future. I usually will not EVER shop with companies whose ads are in an anoying fashion, style, media also (pop-up, radio, whatever..)

Yah, I have adblock and popup blockers, and banner ad blockers too. I do not like being solicited without my permission, and all of those gimmicks are exactly that - you are captive audience unless you can out-smart them and block the ads. How would they like us waving signs in their face, say, while they were having dinner? It is already infesting TV, radio, and cable (used to be ad-free, cable did, so was worth paying for). Some places even have the supreme nerve to demand money for their formerly *free* services, in order to be spared the worst of these visual parasites. Netzero comes to mind. Juno used to require you to consent to being spied on, which of course was revenue for them later. I would *HATE* for this site to get messed up like that. Letting one ad in opens the way for future ads. After all - ya allowed it once. Now, if the money is a must to support the site, normal ads, not animated, floating or pop-ups would be OK. Ditto, if allowed for supporting some charity like MADD, or driver safety programs. Like no-talkie-while-drivee, or something. lol.

I keep the pop-up blocker on at all times; therefore, I wouldn't ever see the ads. I would be surprised if most of your subscribers are not also blocking pop-up ads.

I HATE("HATE" BAD WORD) Floating AD's they are a nuicense. They don't stay in one place. But the Money divided among 5,10,15 or 20 winners would be cool. I also agree with >throttle<.

My Firefox browser blocks pop-ups and floating ads so it wouldn't bother me....if I see an ad I don't want to see again, I use 'Adblock Plus' to eliminate further ads from the sending domain.
Nice Addon to Firefox!

Have some pity on us that use old computers and dial-up access. My computer is slow enough the way it is, and floating ads just drag it down that much more. That said, my vote is not just no, but %$#@! NO!

One a day would be no big deal, because you can just close that ONE... it's when they get outta control that they become annoying. Plus I also have a pop up blocker. : )

What ads? If one uses Firefox with Adblock Plus, it's not a problem, they never appear anyway. Get them from here ---> http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
and here ---> http://adblockplus.org/en/installation

Don't want any pop-ups anywhere, any time.
If forced to accept pop-ups, consider me NO LONGER INTERESTED IN GAS BUDDY or NewJerseyGasPrices.com.
The $5,000 would be nice but I am ABSOLUTELY NOT INTERESTED in unrequested pop-ups.

If it's advertising one ad a day that would be OK. I think it's a great idea to give the money away! Then I can afford to buy gas and travel a little futher away from home!!

Thanks for the insight everyone! We hate those intrusive ads more than anyone but thought we would throw out the opportunity to the members.
In any case we have opted to continue to keep the site clean, and avoid any intrusive ads including all popups, popunders and floating ads.

I agree if the site does not need the revenue than we should stay away from any of these floating ads. If you are only doing it to be able to give away 1 or even several large cash prize I say NO! Unless you guarantee that I’m going to win it, and I know that isn’t going to happen not with my luck. I could be in a drawing with 2 people in it me and myself and still not going to win I’m a contributor not a winner.

One a day that has no sound to it and the ad can be deleted is OK. But don't keep adding these things and make this site unbearable and unusable.

While I like the idea of a larger prize giveaway, I'm sure it would attract new members, I'm strongly against floating ads. In my experience more and more of them include non-mutable audio. There's little more annoying than to be quietly at your computer when all of a sudden an ad comes blaring out unannounced at full volume. I imagine it would be even worse if you were at work.
